The Skeletal Age of the Elbow Joint of the Eighteen -year- old Korean People

Abstract

|
Roentgenological evaluation was carried out on the ossification centers of the elbow joint of the 18-year-old normal Korean, 50 each for male and female. The various maturing stage of these epiphyses could be classified according to a skeletal scoring system and the comparative study of each score resulted in as follows.
1. The appearance rate of the six ossification centers of the elbow joint was 100% in both male and female.
2. The skeletal score of each epiphysis was the same for both sexes; 9 for the radial head, 5 for the olecranon, 9 for the capitellum, 7 for the medial epicondyle, 4 for the lateral epicondyle, and 4 for the trochlea.
3. Total skeletal score was 38 for men and women, and compared with that of the 16-year-old children, it remained the same in female, but it showed higher value by 1.95 in male.
4. It can be said that the result of this study offers a valuable standard in estimating the skeletal maturity state of the elbow joint of the 18-year-old Korean people.
